Provenance: Sold Sotheby's European Silver, Geneva, 12th November 1990, Lot 178.
Literature: Rosenberg p 138, no 2396 and Schliemann p 162, no 178.
Note: Gregorius Lambrecht (1628-1672): was one of the most important silversmiths working in Hamburg during this period. Russia was an important trading partner for Hamburg during this period as a result the Kremlin is home to one of the largest collections of Hamburg silver in the world. Lambrecht's works in particular seem to be housed in multiple Museums and Private collections in Russia. This is why the Cyrillic inscription is to be expected on to the underside.
