Two 17th century Limoges grisaille enamel oval plaques of Emperors - circle of Jacques I Laudin (1627-1695),
The profile portraits with green laurel wreathes, each inscribed with the emperor's name in gilt lettering around the edge of the plaque, in later giltwood frames, minor damages to the enamels and minor restorations, 10.5cm high (2) - Sold for £350 plus Premium and tax
Footnote: The present pair can be compared with four circular medallions of the emperors in the Louvre by Jacques I Laudin ( 1627-1695) which were formerly part of a set of twelve. Baratte suggests that the heads were ultimately inspired by engravings by Marcantonio Raimondi or Henrick Goltzius.
