A Large Famille Verte Rouleau Vase, Kangxi Period

Finely painted with a group of soldiers gathered around a blue-skinned demon, all observed by an official and two attendants on a balcony above. 17¾ in. (45 cm.) high. Estimate $30,000 - $50,000 

Notes: The scene depicted is probably from one of the great Ming novels, which feature frequently in 17th century ceramic decoration. A similarly decorated Kangxi period famille verte rouleau vase of about the same size was sold Christie's, London, 13 November 2001, lot 231.
