Certification: - 1982; in a letter from 21.4.1982, Dott Aldo Rizzi, Comune di Udine, Civici Musei E Gallerie Di Storia Ed Arte explains that the painting does not stem from the hand of Antonio Carneo but from Gian Battista Langetti.
- 1959; Dr. Hermann Voss, Munich, attributes the painting to Antonio Carneo on 6.3.1959.
- 1959; Dr. Heinrich Wichmann, Vienna, also attributed the painting to Antonio Carneo on 16.1.1959.
The motif of St. Sebastian shown with raised hands and shot with arrows can generally be dated to the 17th century. We consider this large, impressive work to belong to the oeuvre of Giovanni Battista Langetti.
A similar work showing the captive Marsyas was auctioned at Cambi Casa D'Aste in 2009.
