Provenance: First recorded in the Royal Collection c.1666-7, the portrait was unattributed and described as ‘A young man in a red garment, red bonnet and white feather with his hand on his sworde and a dagger hanging by’.
Full-length portrait of a gentleman, standing, facing very slightly to the right, his right hand on his waist, his left clasping the hilt of his sword; dressed entirely in red with a white chemise, ruff and cuffs and plumed cap; before a pale green landscape
