The tureen enamelled with a scene of Pan Yue and his admirers, surrounded with a gilt ruyi head and foliate border, with animal handles and a pomegranate finial, the tray similarly decorated. The stand: 39.5cm (15 1/2in) wide (3). Estimate £800 - 1,200 (€970 - 1,500)

Pan Yue 潘岳 (AD247–300) was a Jin dynasty poet. A child prodigy, he grew up to be famous for both his poems and incredible good looks. Wherever he ventured in his travelling chair women would throw flowers to try and attract his attention. He is popularly referred to as Pan An 潘安 which is now a byword for a handsome man.
