An Ilkhanide pottery star tile, Persia, early 14th century. Photo Sotheby's.
moulded in relief and decorated in underglaze cobalt blue outlined in black with lotus head and rosette stem, white border; 20.2cm. diam. Estimation 2,000 — 3,000 GBP - Unsold.
This tile belongs to the so-called Sultanabad group that takes many of the shapes and designs of the Kashan repertory and reworks them in an underglaze palette that prefigures the tilework of the Timurid period.
