Notes: The shape and rich bluish-grey glaze of this vase were inspired by Guan vases of the Song dynasty, compare, for example, a Guan vase of this form in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Porcelains of the National Palace Museum. Guan Ware of the Song Dynasty, Hong Kong, 1962, pl. 9. Vases of this type were popular under the Qianlong emperor as the number of surviving pieces suggest. Compare an example formerly in the J. M. Hu Collection, published in Qing Imperial Monochromes. The Zande Lou Collection, Hong Kong, 2005, cat. no. 29.
