Two white glazed wares, Northern Song, 10th century
Two white glazed wares, Northern Song, 10th century. Estimate £1,200 - 1,800 (€1,700 - 2,500). Photo Bonhams.
Comprising a cup stand, set on a flaring stem foot, with cylindrical body and rounded tapering rim, 8.3cm (3.1/4in) high; and a footed deep bowl with everted 'pie-crust' rim, the ivory glaze falling short of the foot, 12.5cm (4.7/8in) diam. (2).
Notes: For a similar form of 'pie-crust' rim bowl and cup stand see 'Chinese Ceramics In the Carl Kempe Collection', Bo Gyllensvard, p.155, nos. 495 and 498.
Interestingly, the bowl illustrated by Gyllensvard is attributed to the Juluxian kilns in Hebei province, a major centre of production of Cizhou-type white wares before its flooding in 1108.
