The silversmith here masterfully manipulated the contrast between high and low relief. The shepherd kneeling at left and the man standing at right are almost three-dimensional. The shepherds gathered around the Christ Child are dressed as Bohemian peasants, like those Van Vianen would have seen in Prague.
