Lot 46. Diamond parure, Gianmaria Buccellati. Estimate 30,000 — 40,000 GBP (38,124 - 50,832 EUR). Photo Sotheby's.
Of foliate design, comprising a series of textured leaves and flowers each set with brilliant-cut diamond stamens, length approximately 440mm, signed Gianmaria Buccellati, jewels can be detached and worn as a pair of ear clips and a brooch, case stamped Gianmaria Buccellati.
Note: Mario Buccellati began his journey as one of the pre-eminent Italian goldsmiths of the 20th century as an apprentice to the renowned jewellers Beltrami & Besnati. By the second decade of the 20th century the firm was in decline and ready for re-invention at the hands of Mario Buccellati. With his distinctive style, using a technique of engraving, he transformed gold and silver into wonderful creations with a textile effect of tulle and damask.
Gianmaria, the son of Mario Buccallati, set up the brand Gianmaria Buccellati in 1971 after his father’s death. To this day the company remains a family run business which continues to create innovative, one of a kind creations.
