Both brush and cover are carved with an intricate design of peony blooms and buds surrounded by leaves. The top of the cover and the bottom of the brush are each carved as a delicate closed chrysanthemum bud. The interior of the cover is black-lacquered, Japanese wood box.
Provenance: Private collection, Japan, acquired in the 1970s.
