A mottled russet and pale greenish-buff jade huan disc, North-West China, 2nd-1st millenium BC

The flat disc has a central aperture carved from one side, and retains a few semi-translucent areas of pale greenish-white color, while most of the stone is now opaque and has acquired a russet color or patina, Japanese wood box, silk pouch.

Note: A jade huan of smaller size (8.57 cm.), illustrated in A Catalogue of the National Palace Museum's Special Exhibition of Circular Jade, National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1 January 1995 - 1996, p. 57, no. 21, dated late Neolithic to Western Chou, exhibits the same kind of russet color, as well as an area of the original pale greenish-white stone, as seen on the present huan.
