Lot 691. An archaistic mottled pale grey jade cup, Ming dynasty (1368-1644); 2 3/8 in. (6 cm.) high. Estimate GBP 2,000 - GBP 3,000. Price realised GBP 15,000. © Christie's Image Ltd 2015
The cup is carved to the sides with a band of stylised dragons above a key-fret ground. The side is carved with a dragon-head and scroll handle. The base is carved with two characters Yong Bao, which may be translated as 'Eternal Treasure'. The stone is of a mottled grey tone with dark grey inclusions.
Formerly in the collection of the Countesse de Bergeyck, Belgium, acquired prior to february 1953.
