Lot 201. Xu Wenruo (active ca. 1620-30), Village and Fisher Boat in the Rain, dated 1621-27. Fan mounted as album leaf, ink and light colors on gold paper, 17 x 48 cm. Signature by the artist: "In the Tianqi period (1621-1627), in the second leap month on the eighth day painted while raining for old Yuezhai in the style of Dachi (Huang Gongwang, 1269-1354), Xu Wenruo.“ Two seals of the artist: “Xu Wenrui”, “Zhaozhi shi”. Provenance: Old and important European private collection, assembled before 1930 and between 1950 and 1980.
Note: Xu Wenruo, style name Zhaozhi, was a landscape painter from Zhejiang province. A fan he painted in 1633 is now kept in the Palace Museum in Peking.
