Bowl decorated with lotuses, Northern Song dynasty, early 12th century
Bowl decorated with lotuses, Northern Song dynasty, early 12th century. Stoneware, celadon glaze; height 8,5 cm, depth Ø 9 cm. National Gallery of Prague, Vu 3902.
One of the most valued kinds of ceramics in China were vessels with greenish glaze, known as celadon. Elegant silhouettes with subtle ornamentation of carved lotus leaves and a softly blended glaze are characteristic features of the best celadon objects from the Longquan workshops of the Yuan period.
