Anne Paget was the daughter of Grace Farrington and Robert Paget. Her mother's second husband was Sir William Sharington (c.1495–1553), who bought Lacock in 1540. Anne married her mother's brother-in-law Sir Henry Sharington (d.1581).
This painting bears some stylistic similarities to a painting of Anne Russell, Countess of Warwick (in the collection at Woburn Abbey). The artist has not yet been identified, so he has been labelled the 'Master of the Countess of Warwick'.
