NEW YORK - Founded in 1966, the China Institute Gallery has showcased the history of Chinese art from antiquity to the present through thought-provoking exhibitions. The masterworks featured in “China Institute Gallery at 60, 1966-2026: Selections from Three Millennia of Chinese Art” exemplify what has made the Institute’s exhibitions groundbreaking. Dating from as early as 3000 BCE, the objects include fine jades, rare bronze vessels, paintings, calligraphy, Buddhist sculpture, ceramics, auspicious symbols, and scholars’ objects. The current exhibition celebrates how its presentations have illuminated pathways to a deeper understanding of the arts of China. Curated by Annette Juliano, Alfreda Murck, and David Ake Sensabaugh—scholars of Chinese art—it features around 90 works on loan from more than thirty institutions and private collectors.
