A large gilt wood Buddha - Japan Edo Period

Depicting Amida Butsu wearing the characteristic monastic robes falling in rhythmic folds to the front and sides and seated in a pose of meditation, his hands held to the front in dhyanamudra, the stern visage with a large urna and crystal-inlaid downcast eyes framed by a coiffure of small curls (traces of original gilt, restorations). 46 1/2in (118.2cm) high - Sold for $4,500 plus Premium and tax
