A Du Paquier beaker. Circa 1730.

Painted in greenish-black heightened in gilding with a continuous scene depicting a chinoiserie figure in the style of Elias Baeck, flanked by fences, flowering plants and a pagoda above pierced rockwork, the inside rim with a border of alternating shell-like motifs and dots, 7cm high (small restored flat chip to outside edge of rim). Sold for £960

Note: The Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten (porcelain manufactory Augarten) is named after the palais and park where it is located. Dating back to a privilege given by the emperor to Claudius Innocentius du Paquier in 1718, it is, after Meissen porcelain, Europe's second eldest producer of hard-paste porcelain. Since 1744, Augarten pieces bear the shield from the coat of arms of the Dukes of Austria as a trademark
