Aiguière en argent et vermeil par David Bessmann, Augsbourg, 1651-1654

Dans le style auriculaire, le pied ovale à contours, l'ombilic repoussé d'enroulements amatis, le fût en forme de putto habillé en soldat romain le corps repoussé d'un monstre marin, le couvercle gravé et ajouré à l'imitation de vagues et repoussé au centre d'une tortue, gravé sous le bec d'une armoirie et sous l'anse de trois armoiries, l'anse en enroulement avec appuie-pouce en tête de canard et terminée par un chevalier en armure, poinçons sur le bec verseur, sur le couvercle et sur la terrasse de l'anse et striche. Notes: Les armes sont celles de Ferdinand Karl, archiduc d'Autriche (1628-1662). Fils de l'archiduc Léopold V et de Claudia de Médicis, il dirige l'Autriche à partir de 1646. Monarque absolutiste, il est par ailleurs célèbre pour son train de vie dispendieux et sa passion pour la musique.
Les armes sous l'anse appartiennent: au centre à Benedikt Mamming zu Steinachheim und Fragsburg (1633-1706), à gauche à sa première épouse Brigitta Franziska Gräfin von Trauttmansdorff et à droite à sa seconde épouse Maria Clara Freiin Colonna von Voels.
Il était l'un des plus riches propriétaires terriens du Tyrol autrichien et il est probable que cette aiguière soit un cadeau de la famille impériale à l'occasion de son second mariage vers 1684, date à laquelle il fait construire son nouveau palais, le Palais Aufführen.

The shaped oval foot chased with matted auricular motifs, the putto stem dressed as a Roman soldier supporting the nautilus-shaped body, chased with a sea-monster, the cover with chased openwork wave ornament and in the center with a turtle-like animal, the scrolling handle with duck thumbpiece and knight finial, engraved below the spout and the handle with differing coats-of-arms, marked below the spout, on cover and handle and with assay scrape

The arms are those of Ferdinand Karl, Archiduke of Austria (1628-1662). Son of the Archduke Leopold V and Claudia de Medici, Ferdinand ruled Austria from 1646. An absolutist, he is also famous for his expensive lifestyle and passion for music.
The triple coats-of-arms are those of Benedikt Mamming zu Steinachheim und Fragsburg (1633-1706) at the centre, with those of his first wife, Brigitta Franziska Gräfin von Trauttmansdorff, on the left and those of his second wife, Maria Clara Freiin Colonna von Voels, on the right. He was one of the richest landed proprietors of the Austrian Tyrol and it may well be that this was a gift to him from the Imperial family on his second marriage circa 1684. At the same date he was building his luxurious new palace, known as Palais Aufführen.
