finely painted in iron red with a continuous scene of Bacchus and Ariadne, Bacchus in his chariot drawn by leopards, gesturing towards the recumbent figure of Ariadne and attended by Maenads and satyrs with Silenius to one side and ships in the distance, the whole scene contained within a Baroque structure of herms and scrolling architecture, the handle with a strapwork motif at either end and pierced for mounting, the cover with a similar continuous scene of playful bacchic figures also pierced for mounts 17cm, 6 3/4 in high. Estimate 10,000-15,000 GBP
