PROVENANCE: Formerly from the personal collection of Marie Vergottis, who was born in 1914 and was married to George R Vergottis, a well-known Greek shipowner and philanthropist. Throughout her life, Marie had great passion for arts, especially literature and music. After the death of her husband in 1965, she established the George and Marie Vergottis Foundation in Cephalonia, Greece, awarding scholarships to gifted students and promoting the study of history, archaeology, art, economy, geology, seismology and medicine. Previously sold in Geneva Magnificent Jewels sale in year 2000, lot 122.

Accompanied by GIA report numbered 10926352, and Gübelin report numbered 0001039, stating that the 11.98 carat diamond is D colour, VS1 clarity; also accompanied by Gübelin appendix stating that the diamond possesses a purity of colour and degree of transparency which are particular to the finest of natural Type IIa diamonds.
