Partly gilt silver, gilt interior. Oval, scalloped base with corresponding rounded body and high, domed slip lid. Hinged handles on the sides, decorated with female mascarons. The sides are richly decorated with fine, partially punched relief decor and strap work.
Opposed on the sides and centrally set on the upper face of the lid are large, oval cartouches hung with mascarons and fruit garlands or flanked by cherubs with cornucopias. The cartouches are filled with scenes, possibly from an event in Roman history. The spaces between the cartouches are decorated with fruits and mascarons. Height 23cm, Length ca. 32cm. Ca. 2279. Condition B/C. Marked on base and body: A mark from Gdansk from ca. 1670-1700 (Czihak Pg.44 Nr.5), Maker's mark P.R. (Peter Rhode III, 1688-1717, See also: Nr.391). Estimation : 12 000 / 15 000 €
