the compressed globular body divided into fourteen lobes, rising from a knife-pared splayed foot to a waisted neck with flared rim, covered overall in a creamy ivory glaze stopping neatly above the foot to reveal the buff-coloured body- 9.5 cm, 3 3/4  in.

NotesJars of this form have been sold at auction: one was sold twice in our New York rooms, 7th February 1974, lot 120, and 8th May 1981, lot 213; two jars were sold in our London rooms, one from the collection of John Henry Levy, included in the Oriental Ceramic Society exhibition The Arts of the Sung Dynasty, London, 1960, cat. no. 99, was sold, 13th December 1977, lot 398, and the other from the collections of Ambassador Wallenberg and Gustaf Lindberg, 12th December 1978, lot 135; and a further jar was sold at Christie’s Tokyo, 15th February 1981, lot 399.
