The deep rounded sides rising to a flared rim, finely carved in relief with six double-headed ruyi lappets interspersed with smaller bifurcated lappets and a border of lotus-petal lappets around the splayed foot, covered over all in a glaze of pale sea-green tone, Japanese wood box.
Note: Bowls of this pattern are extremely rare. One was included in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Memorial Exhibition, The Charles Hoyt Collection, Boston, 1952, cat. no. 440; the other from the Hall Family Collection, no. 392, was illustrated in Sotheby's Hong Kong Twenty Years, 1993, no. 314.
