The diagonally combed body flaring from the flat rim to a full lower body encircled by vertically combed bands above a low pedestal foot encircled by a single grooved band, with a pair of lug handles on the shoulder.

NoteA pottery vessel of this form but with smaller lug handles and with carved decoration following a bronze-prototype is illustrated by R. Krahl in the catalogue for the exhibition Dawn of the Yellow Earth: Ancient Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, China Institute Gallery, New York, 21 March 2000 - 18 June 2000, p. 31, fig. 7.

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no. C100d32 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
