modelled after the form of an archaic fanghu, potted with a pear-shaped octagonal body rising from a straight foot, set at the shoulder with a pair of lug handles, finely applied overall with a soft pale bluish-grey glaze in imitation of the Song dynasty Ru imperial ware, the base inscribed in underglaze blue with a six-character seal mark.
Provenance: Acquired from Edward T. Chow (1910-80) in the late 1960s.
