White jade dragon among clouds, Wuyue Kingdom (907-978). Unearthed from Kang Mausoleum in Lin'an, Zhejiang Province. Collection of Wuyue Culture Museum, Lin'an.
The Wuyue Kingdom (907-978) was located in Jiangnan, China in the 10th century. It was highly skilled in arts and crafts, such as Yue kiln celadon and gold and silver ware, but it also had devout Buddhist beliefs and played a major role in cultural exchange in East Asia as a seaport city. The Wuyue Kingdom shone brightly for only about 70 years from its founding until it was transferred to the Northern Song Dynasty, and then disappeared.
