Bronze 'Feather' mirror, Eastern Zhou dynasty, 4th century BCE. Diameter 7.5 cm; weight 66 g. Catalog 46 © 2026 Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Ancient Bronze Mirrors
The entire inner surface of the mirror's back features a feather-like pattern stylized with swirling feathers. The pattern was applied using a stamp, leaving a cross-shaped boundary through the center. This method of application is similar to that of other bronze artifacts, suggesting a close relationship between the two production sites.
This mirror is one of the earliest examples of a feather-patterned mirror, differing from later works that feature a beveled rim and smaller feather-like patterns.
