The Albertina presents today Baselitz Remix, on view through April 24, 2007. This exhibition presents Georg Baselitz’s preoccupation with his own oeuvre from the 60s and early 70s, which has resulted in a reinterpretation and variation of his legendary early work, including the pictures of his “heroes”. The furious works from the old days, bursting with vigor, are now being contrasted with a “remix” in serene and brighter colors that sometimes is even self-ironical. By putting his mastership to the test and venturing this variation of his works, the 68-year-old Baselitz subliminally follows Edvard Munch, the father of this kind of painterly recapitulation. The display will include some 30 large-scale paintings and 60 related works on paper, which are shown for the first time. Georg Baselitz’s works constitute a major focus within the ALBERTINA’S activities as a collector of contemporary art.
