Chope en vermeil, Allemagne, milieu du XVIème siècle, apparemment sans poinçon

Conique sur pied bâte à bordure de fleurons, le corps fondu d'un décor de cuirs et grotesques centrés de trois médaillons gravés de profils d'une femme, d'un homme et feuillage, l'anse en caryatide, le couvercle orné de tritons combattant un serpent de mer avec appuie-pouce en Bacchus enfant et appliqué au centre d'un buste masculin, gravé postérieurement au revers III. Hauteur: 13 cm. (5 1/8 in.). 522 gr. (18.40 oz.). Estimate €20,000 - €30,000

Tapering cylindrical on collet foot with floret border, the body cast in sections with grotesques and three scrolling cartouches centred with engraved male and female profile busts and foliage, the handle with caryatid, the cover cast and chased with tritons fighting a sea snake and the centre applied with a portrait bust of Jan Pan Jaroslaw Wranowski von Waldeck, dated 1535, the thumbpiece formed as an infant Bacchus, later engraved underneath with III.
