A pair of Chinese Imperial porcelain fencai quatrefoil lobed tea trays. Six-character sealmark of Qianlong in iron-red and of the period, 1736-1795.

each painted in the centre with a stylised flowerhead encircled by camellia and lotus amongst foliage beneath a band of flowerheads and scrolls on the upright rim finished in gilt, the reverse similarly decorated, all on four short bracket feet. 5 7/8 inches, 15cm across. Price on application

• Formerly in a private American collection.

• A related famille rose tea tray with similar decoration to the border and beneath the rim, with a poem, Jiaqing mark and date (1797) is illustrated by Soame Jenyns in Later Chinese Porcelain, 4th Edition, 1971, pl.CX1, no.2.

• It is unusual to find tea trays with Qianlong marks.
