NOTE DE CATALOGUE: Kostantin Kapidagli was court painter to Sultan Selim III during his reign (1789-1807). He painted commission portraits of Selim III himself, as well as a series of portraits of twenty-eight historical Ottoman sultans, now in the Topkapi Sarayi Müzesi, Istanbul.
