Made for the Dutch market, of cylindrical tapering form with applied handle, finely painted in underglaze-blue with a rider on horseback chasing a hare in a mountainous landscape, within geometric and leaf-shaped bands. Height 21cm. Price on request

The Dutch sent German stoneware tankards to Jingdezhen from Cologne in 1635 to serve as models for these tankards. A similar fine example may be found in The Butler Family Collection, Seventeenth Century Jingdezhen Porcelain from the Shanghai Museum and the Butler Collections, Shanghai 2005, cat no. 121, p.323.
