Modelled as an elephant, its trunk and tail forming a continuous sphere, with rose-cut diamond-set eyes and stylised howdah, the pendant mount with a brilliant diamond suspended from a diamond-set loop; together with a later pearl, diamond and hardstone necklace and bracelet, the pearls untested for natural origin, unmarked. The pendant 1 ¾ in. (4.5 cm.) high, including suspension loop. Estimate £30,000 – £40,000 ($50,580 - $67,440)

The stylised howdah-mount of this pendant relates it to other works by Fabergé inspired by the Order of the Elephant, the highest order of chivalry in Denmark. The relationship between Russia and Denmark was strengthened in 1866 by the marriage of Tsar Alexander III to Princess Dagmar of Denmark. In 1892 the couple ordered from Fabergé a kovsh with a finial in the form of the Order of the Elephant as a gift to Princess Dagmar's parents, King Christian IX and Queen Louise of Denmark in honour of their golden wedding anniversary.
