L'image emblématique du cœur rouge, symbole de l'amour, est apparue pour la première fois dans l'iconographie de la fin du Moyen Âge, dans le cadre de l'« offrande du cœur ». En 1905, l'impératrice Marie Fedorovna de Russie (1847-1928) a offert ce portrait miniature dans un cadre Fabergé comme cadeau de Noël à sa jeune sœur, Thyra de Danemark.

The iconic image of a red heart symbolising love first appeared in late medieval iconography as part of the “offering of the heart”. In 1905, Empress Marie Fedorovna of Russia (1847–1928) gave this miniature portrait set in a Fabergé frame as a Christmas present to her younger sister, Thyra of Denmark.
