The sturdily potted jar is moulded to the shoulders with lobed cartouches enclosing incised lotus sprays, above a band of overlapping lappets that encircles the lower section. The vessel is covered overall in an olive-celadon glaze that stops at the mouth and foot ring exposing the body that has fired an orange-brown. 

Provenance: The Collection of Professor E. T. Hall (1924-2001), then by descent within the family.
