The spirited horse is shown standing on a rectangular base with right foreleg raised, mouth open and ears pricked. The body is caparisoned with a cloth-tied saddle and molded foliate appliqués, softwood stand

Sotheby's New York, 4 December 1985, lot 117, and thence by descent to the present owner. 

The result of Oxford thermoluminescence test no. 466a15 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
