This finely carved wooden head embodies the introspective serenity of Buddhist sculpture. With almond-shaped eyes half-closed in meditation, a gentle smile, and elongated earlobes, it reflects the elegance of Yuan dynasty craftsmanship. The hollow structure and coarse cloth beneath the gesso surface are characteristic of Yuan wood sculpture techniques.
A similar Luohan head was exhibited at A&J Speelman (London, 2002, p. 12).
