Cristóbal Balenciaga’s top international customers were leading socialites of the mid-20th century. They sought to feel beautiful in everyday life and on special occasions alike, relying on the couturier’s refined yet understated elegance.
An outstanding example is this eveningwear from 1965 and which belonged to Grace Kelly. The ensemble consists of a jacket in silver cloqué on a blue background and a skirt in silver and gold cloqué; a dialogue in fabric that combines luxury, glitter and balance.
The purity of the lines and structural restraint – characteristic traits of Balenciaga – create an understated yet majestic silhouette, designed to enhance the presence of one of the most admired women of her time.
