This scene is bursting with life. On the left, a woman is frying oysters and a mischievous boy is trying to feed a cat. On the right, two men are playing backgammon. With his use of color, Steen draws attention to the woman in the center, who is feeding a parrot a cookie. Thanks to the light and her green and purple clothing, she stands out against the other, more grayish figures.
