STORRS, CT.-The Contemporary Art Galleries, in collaboration with the University of Connecticut’s Department of Environmental Ecology and Biology, is organizing an interdisciplinary, multi-media exhibition titled Ornithology: Looking at Birds. The exhibition is on view at the Contemporary Art Galleries through April 11, 2008. The two departments will present a symposium to complement the exhibition. The symposium will take place on April 3, 2008, at 2:30 pm in the Dodd Research Center’s Konover Auditorium. The symposium will feature a panel of several internationally-renowned artists and ornithologists. A reception for Ornithology and the visiting speakers will take place at the CAG directly following the symposium.
The show will present a diverse mix of images, videos, sound clips, and other works featuring birds as its common underlying theme. Despite this clear visual theme, the show is designed to be less about birds and more about humanity. Thus, these artists utilize birds as a departure point to illustrate grand and ambitious themes about human actions and conditions.
