A carved bamboo cup - 18th century

Carved in the round as a recumbent lion with left hind leg tucked under its body, the large flat head turned towards its right flank, jaws open to reveal its tongue and fine teeth, the tufts of hair on the mane, chin, tail and either side of the knobbly spine finely incised, the inside of the body hollowed, the patina dark brown with honey undertones. 9.5cm (3¾in) high. (2) - Estimate: HK$80,000 - 100,000, £5,100 - 6,400 . Unsold
