Ink set of the city of Leiden, the town of Delft and William III, Delft, ca. 1670 - ca. 1680
Ink set of the city of Leiden, the town of Delft and William III and labeled VIJVA Oranie mounted in silver, Delft, ca. 1670 - ca. 1680, faience, h 15cm × 21.5cm b., BK-NM-12400-79, Donation of the heirs of Mr JF Loudon, The Hague, 1916. Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
This inkstand is made for the Orangist Jan Knotter, which was authorized in 1675 to sail as skipper between Leiden and Delft. The city arms held up by lions of Leiden and Delft and refer the water landscape on the back to turn the sail. The inscription and the coat of arms of William III give Knotters political preference.
