An elegant interplay between ceramic artistry and silversmithing, this Delft tankard, mounted with a domed silver lid and thumbpiece, speaks to the refinement of early 18th-century Dutch interiors. The blue and white decoration unfolds as a continuous chinoiserie landscape, populated by figures engaged in quiet, everyday pursuits. Inspired by Chinese export porcelain and woodblock prints, such scenes were reinterpreted by Delft painters for their decorative appeal, rather than narrative specificity.
