Violin, Delft, ca. 1705 - ca. 1710
Violin, Delft, ca. 1705 - ca. 1710, faience, h 63cm × W 23cm x D 10cm. BK-NM-12400-91. Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
Violin earthenware with two scenes with violin players.
This violin of pottery can not be played. It is an ornamental object. When the violin was purchased in 1876 for a record sum of 1,500 guilders by the collector John Loudon, was considered the absolute pinnacle of the production of Delft pottery. The modeling and paintings make this an exceptional object.
