of square quatrelobed form, the cover painted with a pair of confronting five-clawed dragons reaching for a peach inscribed with the shou character borne on a leafy steam emerging from rockwork amidst crashing waves, the sides with four sinuous dragons flying amidst cloud scrolls, the matched box similarly decorated, the base inscribed with an apocryphal six-character mark.
Provenance: Collection of Sigisbert Chretien Bosch Reitz (1860-1938), curator of the Asian Art collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (1914-1926).
Bequeathed to his godson Jonkheer G.C. Six van Wimmenum (1892-1975).
Thence by family descent.
