A rare example of Van Eenhoorn’s craftsmanship, this elegant vase is painted with a serene natural scene: a bird perched before a chrysanthemum, another in flight, and a butterfly hovering above stylized foliage. It is richly decorated with floral scrollwork, geometric bands, and ornamental motifs throughout.
Although Chinese porcelain continued to inspire Dutch potters in this period, it remains unclear whether this refined shape was modeled after an Asian prototype or originated from Van Eenhoorn’s own innovative vision. What is certain, however, is the vase’s rarity—this specific form appears to be unique within his known oeuvre.
