NoteThe present jade pendant carved as a winged dragon is particularly rare. Compare with two closely related examples with similarly carved winged dragons, excavated from important royal tombs of the Han dynasty, including a jade pendant excavated from the tomb of the King of Chu at Shizishan, Xuzhou, illustrated in  Da Han Chu Wang: Xuzhou Xihan Chuwang lingmu wenwu jicui,  Beijing, 2005, p. 282, and another unearthed from Sushantou, Xuzhou, is illustrated in Xu Zhou Han Mu , 2018, Jiangsu, p.538. Compare a related jade dragon pendant, Han dynasty, decorated with dragon and phoenix in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum: Jade, Vol. 4, Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Beijing, 2011, p.163, pl.212, with similar carving techniques and stylistic features to the present lot.
